Thursday

The next morning, I woke up feeling all sore. I took a quick shower then  left for work. I left the house by 7am rather than at 7.40am as I am used to. I really wanted to avoid any contact with Fred.

At work, the end of the year party preparations went on well. I contacted some suppliers and ordered what was required. The date of the end year party was tomorrow, Friday.

As the day went by, I got so engrossed with paperwork that I even missed going out for lunch. I only realised that it was already half past three when I got a notification on my phone regarding an email I was to respond to.

As soon as I started typing the email out, I got a call from Shawn.

“Catherine, how are you?” He started as soon as I picked it up.

“I am good.” I replied.

“Cool.” He added. “So about our meeting, can we hook up today?”

“I am sorry. Today is not a good day for me.” I said. “What if we do it next week?”

“Well, not bad but I won’t be around from the 23rd.”

“No problem. We will definitely meet before then.”

I scratched my head when I hang up the call. I was not ready for another fight with Fred in case I get home late. I quickly decided that next week would be suitable as things would have cooled off.

I continued with the email I was doing then afterwards, I sent out an email to the staff regarding the party tomorrow. It would start at 2pm.

I left the office and went home. I found the nanny preparing dinner while Chloe was dancing to a song on the telly. As soon as she saw me, she gave me a big hug and started telling me about the song. I listened in for a while before she got distracted and started watching the people sing again.

“Wow thanks for making dinner for us.” I told the nanny.

“No problem. I hope you don’t mind that I cooked the fish fillets that was in the freezer.” She said.

“That’s okay, don’t worry about it.” I assured her.

I walked to my bedroom and removed the shoes that I had. I placed my bag on the stand, removed my phone then joined the nanny in the kitchen.

I looked around the kitchen counter to see any accompanying dish for the fillets but I didn’t see anything.

“What’s the accompanying dish?” I asked.

“It in the oven. I have baked some potatoes.” She said as she removed the tray from the oven. The potatoes, now brown in color, looked really enticing.
