For the next four hours, I was so busy on my desk that I did not realize how time had flew by. I took a break by going to the washroom. As I was washing my hands, our receptionist walked in. She was wearing a blue pencil skirt and a white shirt tucked in. She looked so regal.
“Hey.” She said.
“How are you?” I asked.
“I’m good. Thank you.” She said and walked in at one of the toilet cubicles.
I dried my hands and walked out.
I walked to the office kitchen and poured myself a cup of coffee with cream. I added two spoons of sugar then stirred it. I took a sip. Heavenly!
Back at my desk, I took my phone and called Anne. I had not seen this girl in a while. I missed her.
“Hey girl!” I said after she picked up the call.
“Hey mama, how you doing?” She replied. “I even thought you blocked my number.”
I laughed. “Why should I do that?”
“You have never been this silent on me girl.” She said. “Is everything okay?”
“Yes it is.” I responded.
“How is work?” She asked.
“Not bad. Always busy but manageable.” I replied.
“That’s good. I am at work too but we were a bit busy earlier.”
“I’m sorry about that.”
“It is okay. I managed to do my part.” She continued. “We should meet over drinks.”
“That is why I called.” I said. “Are you free tomorrow evening?”
“Unfortunately no. I will be accompanying Mike to his counselor.”
“He has been doing good the past couple of weeks. Since he is doing his last session, the counselor decided it would be good if both of us attended so as to advice us on the way forward.” Ann replied.
“Mmmhh…I think that is a wise decision.” I responded.
“Yea. I think so too.” She said. “I hope everything will be better henceforth because it has been a real struggle for me.”
“I know.” I said. “Try and hold on. Things will work out.”
“Thank you.” She responded. “If you don’t mind, we can reschedule and meet on another day during the week. I can get time.”
“Yea, no problem!”
“Okay dear, thank you so much for calling.” Ann said. “Let me get back to work.”
“Alright dear. Take care!”
