I did not sleep very well that night. I kept on turning. I was not so sure about this pregnancy issue. I will have to make an appointment with the doctor soon.

Early next morning, I woke up at six. Washed up and prepared breakfast before I drove to work. There was a meeting with the C.E.O. at exactly 8.30am. I did not want to be late. I walked straight to my office and finished a report I was doing before joining the others for the meeting. At first, it was too quiet. It was 7.15am and most of the staff had not reported to work.

The meeting was about three hours long. It did not seem so long as we had breaks and snacks served in between. The meeting was about the report each of us department managers came with after the last meeting on ways to improve the organisation in terms of profitability.

During the lunch hour break, I decided to call my mother.

“Hey mama.” I started.

“Catherine! How are you?” She replied. “This is a surprise.”

“Yes I know.” I said.

“How are you?”

“I’m good mum. I really miss you.”

“I miss you too dear.” She responded. “How is the family? Chloe?”

“They are all okay mum.”

“You should come visit Catherine. You know I always miss having you around.”

“I know mama. Ill arrange a visit.”

“By the way, do you remember Shawn? He used to go to school with you. When you were around Grade 5?”

“Shawn?” I asked.

“Yes. He used to be tall and liked walking around with a basket ball all the time?”

“Yes I do.” I said laughing at my mum’s description of him.

“Do you keep in contact with him?”

“Yes mum but it has been a while since we last spoke.”

“Oh, then you don’t know. His mum passed on last night.”

“What? Why?”

“Blood clot. She was such a healthy woman. How do this clots form to even kill someone?”

“Oh God. I am so sorry. When is the funeral?”

“It is this Saturday. It will be at the cemetery down Parkway Road.”

“Okay. I will come and be there for him. This is so sad.”

“Yes it is.”
