Monday morning, I dragged my body to the office. I don’t know why I was so tired and lazy. Since work had to be done, I kept my cool and did my part.

Two new staff came in at around nine. As the HR, I had to show them around the office. I took them to the different offices, introduced them to the other employees then showed them where they would seat. I gave them some new stationary that they would use for their time in the organisation. The department head came and started showing them what they would do.

I found the tea girl placing a wide mug of coffee on my desk. She excused herself and left. I took the mug and drunk it with few nuts I had carried from home.

Ann came by the office during lunch hour. She was dressed in a black skirt suit, black stilettos and a brown handbag. She was carrying a white paper-bag too. She strutted directly to my office and sat down on the chairs next to my desk.

“Hey girl.” She said as she sat.

“Hey Ann. What a surprise!” I replied.

“Sorry about that. I thought I would check on you and give you this.” She said as she gave me the paper-bag.

I opened it slowly not sure what to expect. Inside the bag, there was a small white wooden case. I lifted the lid and saw a beautiful Marc Jacobs Riley gold wrist watch.

“OMG, is this mine?” I asked.

I rose up from my seat and gave her a hug.

“Yes it is.”

“Did you win a lottery?” I asked while trying to wear the watch.

“No. Why?”

“This watch is not cheap.”

She laughed. “Can’t a friend just buy her best friend a gift?”

“Yes you can.”

I gave her another hug before I sat down.

“So what’s the occasion?” I asked.

“None. I just wanted to give you something small for always being there for me.”

“Aaaaww, that’s so sweet.” I responded. “I appreciate it so much. Thank you.”

“You are welcome.”
