Home Time

I tried as much as I could to finish all the work that I was to do that day. I packed my handbag and left the office using an Uber back to the house.

Chloe ran towards me as soon as I opened the door. I lifted her up in the air and she giggled. I put her down and she started telling me stories on how she spent her day. I sat down on the couch, listened to her, smiling a bit to let her know I was interested in the story.

The nanny came and sat next to me. She was curious on what I was being told.

“I need a favor.” She asked.

“Yes. What is it?” I answered.

“Is it possible you assist me with $200? You can deduct it from my salary.”

“Is everything okay?” I asked.

“Not really. My mum has to go for a medical checkup and she is not under insurance. I need the cash to enable her pay for her appointment.”

“I’m so sorry. I thought she was getting better.”

“I thought so too but she started having pain again on her left leg.”

“Okay, ill send you the cash direct to your phone as I don’t carry such an amount with me.” I said. “Is that okay?”

“Yes it is. I am so thankful Catherine.”

“Hope she will be okay.”

“Me too.”

We sat in silence for a few minutes until we heard the door being opened. It was Fred. He was carrying a file on his hand.

“Hello.” He said while walking towards us.

“Hello.” The nanny and I responded.

He lifted Chloe up and went with her to the bedroom.

“I need to leave now.” The nanny said picking her handbag. “I had already prepared dinner.”

“You did?” I asked. “Thank you so much.”

“You are welcome.” She responded walking towards the door. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Nice evening.”

Fred walked out of the bedroom wearing his shorts. He was carrying Chloe on his right side. They were laughing together.

“How was your day?” I asked.

“It was a very busy one. I am so tired.” He responded.

“Sorry about that.”

“How was yours?” He asked.

“It was long. Had meetings with the boss.”

“Okay. Hope everything is okay?” He asked.

“Hopefully it will be.” I responded. “Fred, I think its time we take my car to the garage.”

“Yeah. Ill take it tomorrow.”

“How much will they charge?”

“We will have to take it and get it assessed before we can conclude on what the main problem is. Then we will get the quote for the work.”
